FAN ART: Joshua Smeaton

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Check out this AMAZING Cleo fan art I just got from good buddy and annual Megacon table neighbor, Joshua Smeaton.

Click for a larger image.

Seriously. That space background is the best thing ever. Great take on Khensu too! Josh’s first graphic novel, Haunted, just hit stores a couple of weeks ago. I’d track it down and buy it I were you. It’s good stuff. He updates Haunted online every week as well!

Page 18 Progress

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

I thought it’d be fun to share a little bit of the progress of this week’s page- even though I completely forgot to scan my pencils before inking over them. I probably have some thumbnails laying around that I could have scanned too, but Lord knows where those are. :P

Anyhoo, click below for the stages!

FAN ART: Wil Overton

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

That’s it. I’m quitting and letting Wil Overton take over the comic. Just take a look at this AMAZING fan art he sent me today:

Click for a larger image.

It’s INCREDIBLE! The colors, the details (that back wall OMG), those flippin awesome Taweret statues (which I will steal and use). It even tells a story. So yeah. Lets just let Wil take over, shall we?

And make sure to check out his DeviantART gallery! A bunch of other great stuff on there as well as a larger version of this illo.

Pittsburgh Comicon

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

I wanted to let you all know that I and a whole bunch of Cleopatra in Spaaace preview books will be at the Pittsburgh Comicon this weekend, April 23-25. I’ll also have some other stuff with me like C&B books, prints and this guy (who’ll be helping me man my booth).

I’ll be in the Small Press section, booth S086 (right across from the concessions). So if you are planning on being there, make sure to stop by and say hi!

2010 Pittsburgh Comicon Photo Set!

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Back from Pittsburgh and I had a great time! Thanks to all of you who stopped by and bought some books/prints or just said hi. Perhaps some of you are just now here at the site for the first time?

Thanks to my pal Matt Yokom, who helped keep me company behind my table, I have a bunch of photos to share. First up, Cleopatra was a big hit amongst the various superheroes, villains and other apparently not-so-fictional characters who attended the show…

Pgs 23 & 24 Process

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Because of the unusual amount of digital work I did to create the last two pages of Cleopatra in Space (and because I actually remembered to scan my pencils this time) I thought they might make another good glimpse at my process for creating this comic. Appropriately, it’s also Dialogue Free Comic Day! Click below for the stages.

HEROES CON!!

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

My favorite convention of the year, HeroesCon, is fast approaching. And for the first time ever I’ll be a guest there this year situated somewhere in the coolness of Indy Island.  I’m pretty excited, which lead to me drawing up this promo artwork for the show:

Now here’s the rad news: There will be a signed & numbered limited edition print run of this artwork (printed on a high quality watercolor stock- different from the usual gloss stock for my regular prints) of 15 at the show! 14 will be for sale at my table. The first numbered one along with the original b&w artwork will be  donated to Heroes Aren’t Hard To Find’s annual art auction, which helps fund the show and maintain it’s awesomeness.

Also, for those wondering, yes- I will have some Cleo books with me as along with my usual table full of stuff. I really hope to see a lot of you there! All signs are pointing towards this being the best year ever. June 4-6, Charlotte Convention Center.

Why Spacedock 7 is Awesome

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Guys. I am super excited to let you all know about an awesome new webcomic collective Cleopatra in Space is now a part of: Spacedock 7! Here are the reasons it is awesome:

The Comics

All of the comics are sci-fi (or sci-fish) in nature, giving a common theme to the collective. And who doesn’t like sci-fi? Even better, all of the webcomics were started THIS YEAR, making every SD7 webcomic super easy to jump on to. Cleo is actually the elder of the batch.

The comics are:

Escape From Planet Nowhere by Otis Frampton
Cleopatra in Spaaace! by Mike Maihack
Topaz by Joel Carroll
Red’s Planet Eddie Pittman
Dimension Dust by Grant Gould
Gronk by Katie Cook
My Sister, the Freak by Dani Jones

The Schedule

Each webcomic updates a different day each day of the week. So you can easily follow all of the Spacedock 7, Sunday though Saturday.

The Creators

SRSLY. Totally greatest people in the world (except perhaps Grant’s aversion to twitter). SD7 wouldn’t have happened if we weren’t all fans of each other’s work and excited about making comics. Since we all were coincidentally crafting new science fiction stories this year, it was just necessary we all got together.

The Site

Dani designed our central hub of operations and, besides being super cool to look at, we also plan on updating with news, extras and original content that you won’t find on our individual sites. You might even find us creating content for each OTHER’S sites! There’s also a forum for those of you that want to communicate with all of us at once as well as individually.

So yeah. Awesome, right?

Party Planet

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Well, it’s my birthday today so I decided to celebrate by drawing this picture of Khensu (with special guest appearance by Anthony Clark’s–aka: Nedroid’s–Party Cat)!

Wouldn’t it be great to land on a planet where everyone was forced to party? And these cute little kitty cats would bounce around putting party hats on everything. Yeah. That would be pretty sweet.

HeroesCon is this weekend…

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

…and I am super excited about it! I really hope I get to meet a lot of you there too. You’ll be able to find me in Indie Island, table AA-520. Here’s a handy-dandy map of where exactly that is in relationship to my other SD7 crewmates:

(click for a larger view)

I also snapped some pictures of my auction piece for the show. It’s the original art and first signed & numbered edition of the Cleo Heroes illo I did.

If you won’t have a chance to bid on it, I’ll have 14 remaining prints for sale at my table. But after they’re gone, that’s it! I won’t be printing any more. So hopefully everyone who wants one can get one. I was really happy with how they all turned out.

I’ll also have a bunch of other stuff with me. Cleo books, C&B books, lots of other prints, Jen, some buttons…  HeroesCon is June 4-6 at the Charlotte Convention Center. Don’t miss out!
