Cleo Art from Eddie Pittman!

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

The last pin-up for the Cleo books I’m having printed up was done by cartoonist extraordinaire (and fellow SD7 crewmate), Eddie Pittman!

Haha! Fantastic. I defintely need to draw  more shots of Khensu bathing himself.

Eddie’s skill level blows me away, and I’ve been a fan of his work ever since he handed me a b&w preview copy of Red’s Planet at MegaCon a year and a half ago. So I’m totally excited to have Eddie updating Red’s story in FULL ON GORGEOUS COLOR every week! Everything Eddie does is amazing- from his draftsmanship, to his pacing, to his expressions, to the way his coloring enhances every panel- you really have no reason at all for not following Red’s Planet. One of the best webcomics out there.

Tough Girls of Webcomics

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Right before leaving for SDCC, Josh Ulrich posted this awesome drawing:

Yeah! That’s Cleo hanging out with Phobia from GastroPhobia, Princess Gina from Legend of Bill and Jackie Rose from Josh’s own uh… Jackie Rose! Totally awesome.

I hung out with Josh quite a bit at SDCC. Great guy and a terrific artist. We had a lot of conversations about Scott Pilgrim. I hope to get some sort of  SDCC report up for all of you, but I’m waiting for Jen to offload some photos and stuff first. But just so you all know, I had an amazing time. Looking forward to going back next year.

FAN ART: Jonny Jimison

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Today’s super cute and fun Cleo Fan art comes from Mr. Jonny Jimison:

I’m not too familiar with Jonny’s work but I love the above image. It’s so simple and whimsical and almost says, “Watch out Texas! Cleo and Kehnsu are gunning for you!”

Make sure to check out more of Jonny’s work on his blog!

FAN ART: Josh Alves

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

I’m a little late posting this Friday’s fan art, but it’s only because I just got it! And from the always jovial Josh Alves no less!

There is nothing I don’t love about this image. Cleo and Khensu’s personalities are spot on and the coloring is so bright and cheery. It’s almost how I’d picture Cleo in Space if it were an actual Saturday morning cartoon.

What else can I say about Josh? He’s a great cartoonist. A good friend. He draws at least three amazing and completely different comics- my favorite of which just had a new book come out (buy it). So it means a lot that he took time out of his busy schedule to tackle my characters. Love this, dude! Thanks so much!

FAN ART: Charles Arrington

Friday, September 10th, 2010

This Friday’s fan art came to me though The Twitter! Boy I love The Twitter. All of you should be following me on The Twitter. It’s a fun place. Anyhow, here’s a wonderful portrait of Cleo by Charles Arrington!

Charles draws a webcomic called Redux Deluxe which I encourage you to check out. He’s also got a lot of great pinups and fan art on his blog on the same site. You can also follow him on The Twitter!

FAN ART: Michael Regina

Friday, September 17th, 2010

Ack. Sorry to get this up so late. I was too busy drawing cats this morning. Anyhow, I think you’ll agree that this fan art from the amazing Michael Regina is worth the wait:

HOW. COOL. IS. THIS. Cleo vs. the Space Dragon. Guess I have to draw a space dragon into the story now. OH WELL.

I highly recommend reading Michael’s webcomic, Kevin and the Light of Destiny, that just started this year. It’s good stuff (and one of the inspirations for me to start coloring Cleo). Or, if it’s a more ‘advanced in it’s story’ comic that suits you, check out From Death Til Now, which just had its first book come out!

FAN ART: Wes Molebash

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

I’m tired of waiting till Friday to post fan art. Fan art for the rest of the week! First up, this great take on Cleo by Wes “best last name ever” Molebash:

Everyone should be subscribed to Wes’ tri-daily webcomic Max vs Max because well, it’s funny. Really funny. And drawn really well too. Plus, Wes isn’t afraid to write openly about faith, bad dating experiences, and combining those two things in Max’s naive faith that dating actually gets easier.

Wes himself is also a pretty awesome guy. It says so right on his twitter bio.

FAN ART (kinda): Zach Morris

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

This is kind of a different fan art. Zach Morris dressed up his own webcomic characters, Lila and Mikalu, as Cleo and Khensu.! Pretty fun!

Really nice colors on this! It also occurs to me that this would have been a good piece to post closer towards Halloween. Oh well. Right month at least.

Zach’s comic, Pulp Culture, is some pretty funny stuff. Make sure to stop by and and read through some of the archives. You can also check out more of Zach’s work on deviantARt.

FAN ART: Michael Alonzo

Friday, October 8th, 2010

No slight to any other creators, but this is probably the coolest fan art I’ve ever received. Michael Alonso sent me this gif, all animated out in old school 8-bit awesomeness:

I want to play the actual game now! And using an ankh as the life meter is a nice touch. If you look reaaaally closely too, you can even see Khensu sittin’ there in the sidecar (his tail’s moving up and down).

Michael is a master of the pixel arts, which you can see for yourself at his webcomic Pixel Pandemonium (check out the ton of other pixelated fan art he’s created too)!

FAN ART: Johnny Nguyen

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

In the midst of all this lazer blasting and stealth bike crashing, it’s nice to be able to see Cleo takin’ a bit of a break. Thankfully, Johnny Nguyen just sent me this great fan art of our protagonist doing just that.

Just chillin’.

You should check out Johnny’s webcomic, Finn. It’s about hanging out with friends, having relationships, making jokes. Life type stuff. Nothing anyone can’t identify with. Pretty sure at least… (we all make jokes right?)
